Native Voters Alliance Nevada Condemns Amodei and Maloy’s Shameless Attack on the Antiquities Act

LAS VEGAS, NV — Representatives Mark Amodei (NV-02) and Celeste Maloy (UT-02) have unveiled the “Ending Presidential Overreach on Public Lands Act,” a brazen and dangerous attempt to dismantle the Antiquities Act of 1906. This legislation, which strips presidential authority to designate national monuments, is nothing more than a giveaway to corporate interests and a direct assault on the protection of sacred lands, irreplaceable history, and our collective future.

Mathilda Miller, MPPA, Government Relations Director of Native Voters Alliance Nevada, issued the following statement:

“This legislation is a shameless betrayal of the people of Nevada and the West. Congressman Amodei’s claims that the Antiquities Act ignores local voices are not only false—they’re offensive. The truth is clear: Avi Kwa Ame would not have been protected without an overwhelming wave of local support. In Laughlin, NV, people from small towns, Tribal Nations, and counties across the state came together to tell the Bureau of Land Management one thing: this sacred land must be protected. Their voices carried the day—not Washington bureaucrats or special interests.

“This bill doesn’t solve a problem; it creates one. By gutting the Antiquities Act, Representatives Amodei and Maloy are handing sacred lands and public treasures over to corporate greed. National monuments like Avi Kwa Ame, Bears Ears, and the Grand Canyon are more than protected landscapes—they are lifelines for local economies, guardians of cultural history, and sources of unity for our communities. Amodei and Maloy are putting future lifelines at risk to serve industries that see only dollar signs, not cultural or environmental value.

“This bill is a direct attack on Tribal sovereignty, cultural preservation, and the values that define who we are as a nation. Amodei and Maloy’s reckless disregard for the Antiquities Act shows they are unwilling to represent the people who rely on these lands for their identity, livelihoods, and future. They are not champions of local voices—they are pawns of special interests, willing to erase history and destroy sacred spaces for profit.

“This is not leadership—it’s exploitation. Western voters, regardless of party, overwhelmingly support public land protections because they know what’s at stake. We demand that Congress reject this shameful attack on public lands. The Antiquities Act is not just a policy—it’s a promise to protect our shared history, uphold Tribal sovereignty, and preserve the places that define who we are. That promise will not be broken—not on our watch.”
